Welcome to Energy From Home, a site devoted to educating you on alternate power sources. We have chosen to create this blog because this so called “energy crisis” in our country is really getting us down. The only reason that we are in this predicament is because the government refuses to make the switch to alternate energy.

If we can build a cell in our garage with no special equipment that will make our cars run off pure water, there is no reason we should be paying 4 dollars a gallon for gas. Please continue reading and even offer your own input.

I’ll start off by explaining things for those who are new to the science side of it all. It’s very easy to understand. It all comes down to the fact that every single bit of matter contains energy. The trick is in releasing that energy.

Our bodies do this naturally. There is energy in food, that energy is released when we eat it. As our bodies digest the food, it is turned into energy, thus giving us the ability to move and breathe and all that good stuff.

Finding energy to power our cars or anything else is very similar. Gasoline is an example, on its own, it just sits there, but put it in an engine and put a spark to it and it combusts rather quickly, creating energy. We have harnessed this energy with the internal combustion engine.

Although it is very easy to release energy from gasoline and easy to harness, it is now outdated. Gasoline was a great way to power our cars in the past, but its now time to move on. Pollution is an ever growing problem and oil is in such demand that the prices are growing to high for most of us to cope with on a long term basis.

In the next few posts I will discuss the possible energy source of burning water. Yes, burning water. Its very simple and you can even do it in your own garage at home.

As I explained in the last post, everything has energy. Including water. However unlike gasoline we can’t release that energy just by holding a lighter to it. There is one extra step in there, called electrolysis. Electrolysis is the molecular seperation of hydrogen and oxygen. We all know that water is H2O, two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. The process of electrolysis simply seperates those molecules and in this case turns them into a gas form.

Electrolysis is easy to understand and is also an extremely simple procedure. All it takes to turn water into hydrogen and oxygen is an electric charge. If you were to take a positively charged steel plate and a negatively charged one and stick them both in a bucket of water (without touching them together) you would be performing electrolysis. You will see little bubble forming on the plates, the bubbles on the negative side are pure oxygen, the bubbles on the positive side, pure hydrogen.

Thats the easy part….although there’s not really a hard part. While creating these bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen, you can hold a lighter to the surface of the water where the bubbles are rising. As they reach the flame, they will combust. You are now releasing energy from water.
